Q1 | Can it be used with a home audio system? |
| This unit is a commercial/professional use equipment and can only be purchased by special dealers with installation capability. Although the unit can be used as a home audio system, it is not tuned for Hi-Fi enjoyment as it is optimized for background music playback.
|
Q2 | What does "optimized for background music playback" sounds like? |
| Because the tweeters are placed in front and back of the speaker, the sound reflects off the walls creating a soft room filling sound that doesn't interfere with conversations even at a certain high volume. It won't make you tired of listening to the music even with long playback time. Also, the ultra-heavy bass that shakes the walls and the ceilings are cut off, but the powerful groovy bass is still there for you.
|
Q3 | What is the best placement for the speakers? |
| Placing the speakers near to the corner of the wall or the ceiling, will take advantage of the sound reflections from the wall to create a room filling natural sound. Even when installed in the center of the room, the tweeters in front and back of the speaker will evenly spread-out the sound in all directions, allowing for a greater degree of flexibility in speaker installation places.
|
Q4 | What are the available mount brackets and what are the points to note when installing the speakers to the wall or the ceiling. |
| Mount brackets are not included. However, third party mount brackets are commercially available , so please purchase them separately. (See Specifications for recommendation) Please confirm the strength of the mounting place in advance and select a location that can easily support the weight of the speaker and the mount brackets. When installing the speaker to the wall or the ceiling, please use the supplied safety-wire for fall prevention. We will not be responsible for damages resulting from faulty installation.
|
Q5 | Can I place it on a shelf? |
| If you place the speaker on a sturdy shelf, it should be OK. If placed inside the box-shaped shelf, the bass sound tends to sound boomy. Also, since it does not come with any feet, we recommend using felt sheet for furniture protection cover or plastic rubber sheet as a substitute for the feet to lift up the speaker few millimeters from the shelf. When the speaker is placed on a shelf with the brand logo in the correct direction, installation holes for the ceiling mount brackets will be visible on the top surface of the speaker. If you are concerned about these holes, please cover it up with a commercially available round patch stickers.

Q6 | Should I choose a low- or high-impedance connection? |
| Low impedance specification is 8 ohms. The high impedance 100V connection can be selected in five steps from 7.5W to 30W in the case of a 100V connection. For example, for a small to medium sized space using a small number of speakers, use a low impedance connection, and for a large space requiring a large number of speakers, use a high impedance connection. Please choose the low- or high-impedance connection depending on your requirements of the installation space.
|
Q7 | What precautions should I take when making a low-impedance connection? |
| When connecting multiple speakers in a low impedance connection, make sure that the combined resistance of the speakers does not fall below the minimum guaranteed impedance of the amplifier. E.g. If four speakers are connected in parallel, the combined resistance will be 2 ohms, and therefore cannot be used with an amplifier which the minimum guaranteed resistance is 3 ohms. In this case, you need to change the amplifier from guaranteed resistance of 3 ohms type to 2 ohms type, or you need to reduce the number of speakers from four to two.
|
Q8 | What precautions should I take when making a high-impedance connection? |
| When connecting multiple speakers in a high-impedance connection, make sure that the sum of the power tap settings does not exceed the maximum output of the amplifier. E.g. If the speaker power tap setting is set to 10W and four speakers are connected in parallel, the total required power will be 40W, and therefore cannot be used with a 30W amplifier. In this case, you need to change the amplifier from 30W type to 40W type or more, or you need to reduce the number of speakers from four to three or less, or you need to set the speaker's power tap setting to 7.5W. However, if you want a powerful sound of 80dB or more, we recommend that you use an amplifier of 60W or more with a speaker power tap setting of 10W or more.
|
Q9 | What happens if the impedance setting of the speakers and the amplifier are connected incorrectly? |
| If your speakers are on a low impedance setting and your amplifier is on a high impedance output, you might damage your speakers. If the speakers are on a high impedance setting and the amplifier is on a low impedance output, sound playback volume will be low and distorted even if you turn up the volume. Before turning on the amplifier, be sure to check that the settings and connections of the speakers and the amplifier are correct.
|
Q10 | Are there any recommendation on the amplifiers to be used in combination with SMS6.3? |
| We recommend to use our MCA1120 or PCA1120. The minimum guaranteed impedance for a low impedance connection is 2 ohms, so up to four speakers can be connected in parallel. In a high impedance connection, since the rated power of these amplifiers are 120W, up to 12 speakers can be connected in parallel when the speaker is set to 10 watts, and up to 4 speakers can be connected in a 30 watts setting for more powerful sound.
